Artist Interview
Q: Can you share how your artistic journey began? What inspired you to start creating, and how has that initial spark evolved over time?
A: I’ve been creating art my whole life and have always been drawn to express myself through different mediums. My journey of making portrait dolls began when I made them for my kids to go along with their homeschool lessons. I used it as a way to make learning more fun and hands-on. What started as a practical project soon turned into a passion for capturing details and personalities in these little figures. Over time, my approach has evolved, and what was once just a way to teach has become a key part of my creative expression.
Q: What have been some of the most significant moments or challenges in your journey as an artist?
One of the most significant moments in my journey as an artist has been finding the balance between motherhood and creativity. Over time, I learned that creating art is a vital way for me to reconnect with myself. This challenge taught me to prioritize creativity, even in small moments, and it shaped my work by making it more personal and intentional. My perspective has shifted to see art as a form of self-care, helping me stay grounded and centered in all aspects of my life.
Q: If you could offer one piece of advice to other creatives pursuing a career in visual arts, what would it be?
The creative journey isn’t always easy, and there will be challenges along the way, but perseverance is key. Don’t compare your progress to others. Take the time to rest and recharge, when needed. Trust that your unique perspective and voice have value, and keep pushing forward, even through the tough moments.
